  ABOUT

History of the Pastega Christmas Light Display

In 1981, Mario Pastega had Ole Brensdal create Christmas scenes and place them in the field surrounding the PepsiCola Bottling plant. For the first 10 years, Alma Pastega would select the characters for display. Ole and Alma would cut the characters out and she would paint them by hand. Since then, scenes and characters were added each year and community members contributed their displays. When Mario passed away in 2012 and the firm was sold, it was evident to the Pastegas that they wanted to continue the Christmas display. Community enthusiasm for the display had individuals or families adopt the weather beaten pieces; returning them refurbished to the new home of the display at Benton County fairgrounds on 53rd St. The Pastega Christmas display continues to survive and thrive with the help of many volunteers and businesses in our community who have given of their time, talents as well as donations of equipment or materials. Although our display is FREE and non-commercial, we are encouraging canned food donations for those in need in our local communities. If you are unable to volunteer but appreciate our efforts, we encourage a donation to the Benton County FG Foundation. Donations will be applied to fairground improvements.
